Do’s and Don’ts of Wearing big size oversized tops

An oversized top can be so relaxing, casual and has undeniable comfort value.  This year, oversized tops are everywhere.  Some have a high-low hem with the front being shorter and the rear longer.  They come in everything from floral prints to studs.  The best thing about the trend is that you can put them with shorts, trousers, jeans or a skirt and you are instantly pulled together.   But, there are some reasons to make sure you follow the style rules in your women’s plus size clothing to really rock in an oversized top.

Do

Don’t be scared to mix loose over long. Try a straight-lined skirt at a calf length and the overall oversized look will still keep its polish.

A knot can bring a casual clothing feeling to the extra-long length of an oversized top.  Some tees come with tied-up ends, or do it yourself.  Choose a slimmer bottom to balance the bulk on top.

Belt it—the simplest way to create a feminine shape with a plus size clothing oversized top is to add a belt at your natural waist.  Just be sure to wear a high-waist bottom to avoid those awkward halfway-midriff-baring moments.

Don’t

Don’t get lost in tented fabrics and loose fits – you can wear the oversized look in plus size women’s clothing without sacrificing any shape, style, or sex appeal. Don’t buy oversized tops that are bigger than the size you normally wear.  You do not want the shoulder seams down at your elbows.   Women’s plus size women’s clothing without proper tailoring are almost always going to make your body appear larger than it really is.

Plus Size Petites should avoid oversized tops that go below the hip. Shorter body frames can look even shorter with overly long plus size tops, jackets and sweaters. Tops that go below the hip on a petite figure will shorten the look of the legs.  A top or jacket that stops just at the hip bone will elongate the look.

Professional stylists plus size women’s clothing are against an entire outfit of all one pattern with no solid color to break it up (unless it is a dress).  If you want to include a patterned oversized top in your big size wardrobe, pick only one patterned clothing item per outfit.
